Durham Energy Institute Symposium 2017
Durham Energy Institute Annual Research Symposium 2017
Energy Systems Integration – What do we know and what do we need to do now?
Sponsored by the EPSRC National Centre for Energy Systems Integration (CESI), the Durham Energy Institute (DEI) hosted a symposium for academics, industry specialists, policy makers, energy planners, funders and energy professionals as well as community groups, students and the general public to discuss and debate the challenging topic of energy system integration.
The energy industry is facing countless new challenges as current resources run out and new sources are developed. Our sources of generation are changing and our transmission systems are now being asked to work in a very different way to their initial design. Tackling these global challenges requires collaboration and innovation in both behaviour and technology. Lead by recently appointed DEI Director Professor Jon Gluyas, this Symposium aims to provide an insight into 4 of the major challenges of integrating our energy systems.
The morning panel debate sessions will include panels on Energy and Ethics and Energy Storage as well the results of the photography competition. The afternoon session will include a Three Minute Thesis (3MT)Competition , and panel debate sessions on the UK Energy Market and Technologies & Methodologies.

The programme also feature a Keynote talk by Dr Robert McGrath, Director, Renewable & Sustainable Energy Institute (RASEI), University of Colorado, Boulder USA
